The Path a Head of Lettuce Takes Through the Icheon Farm

From a single seed to a packed box, lettuce at N.THING's Icheon farm passes through four stages. We followed it through the nursery, cultivation, and processing buildings in turn.

The Light of the Final Week Before Harvest

How many days lettuce lasts after harvest has something to do with the light it received in the week just before it was picked. Drawing on research from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, we look at the relationship between light and shelf life.

Basil Turns Black in Cold Places

Basil is one of the rare vegetables that spoils faster the colder you keep it. Below 12℃, its leaves turn brown and lose their aroma — a condition called chilling injury. Here we look at the causes, and at what changes from the growing stage onward.

Even in the Age of AI, Food Still Has to Be Grown

Even in an era when AI handles so much of our work, food still needs soil, water, light, and time to grow. The number of people farming and the water available to them are both shrinking. Here's a look at the job agricultural technology has to do, and what N.THING is doing about it.

The Five Values on the Grow Room Screen

Indoor farms watch five values: temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, light, and nutrient solution. Here's what each one means to a plant, and why they have to be read together rather than one at a time.

Why Lettuce Leaf Tips Burn

Even when nutrients are plentiful, the tips of the inner leaves of lettuce can turn brown and dry out. This is tipburn, which occurs when calcium fails to reach the leaf tips. We have put together the causes, and the reasons why indoor farms keep a close watch on airflow and nutrient solution.

Why Strawberry Seedlings Are Raised Indoors

Strawberries propagate through stems rather than seeds, and their seedlings grow during the hottest part of summer. We look at why seedlings are the hard part of strawberry farming, and what changes when propagation moves indoors.

Introducing the N.THING Blog

Our team writes, in its own words, the stories that press releases could never fully capture — what happens on the farm, the technology we build, and where this industry is headed.
